*random*

I finally got a pencil sharpner so I can start using my prismas...and today went and bought some bristol paper and a micron pen XD! Oh and random...does anyone know where one can purchase derwent pencils at a decent price. The local arts and crafts store kinda sucked selection wise.

I love the way you are doing the spots on the sketch. And the way you did the lighting in the Jenny pic is amazing. That is how I have been wanting the lighting when I commish someone to make me a rain forest background, but never know how to describe it. Great job!! XD

*smacks* stop being so awesome D:

My best bet for the pencils would the...the intarnet. Or even try garage sales. I got a 50 pc Ticonderoga set of colored pencils brand spankin' new at a garage sale once.

Derwent? Meh, I personally prefer prismas a lot better. They don't seem to layer/mix as well as prismas in my opinion, but I may just be using them wrong.

But no, these things will always be expensive unless you manage to get lucky and snag a batch cheap on ebay.

I love the sketch, though. I like your style...realistic and a mix of toony. It's really nice. I do really like the way you drew the eyes in this one, and the little muzzle. ^^ The chubby structure is so adorable, as well. (I'm physically unable to draw chubby things.)

And I love your shiny icons, by the way. They're really eye-catching....really pretty. The rendering/shading job on them are really something else. Very unique. :3

And wow. The finished commissioned picture looks quite different from the WIPS, you've shown us. The lighting has changed quite a lot. A lot more dramatic and a new feel to it has been added. I'm quite fond of the lighting. It's really pretty and the color coordination is really well....coordinated. ;P

You have quite a distinct style of painting your fur too. I can't help but admire how realistic the face of the feline is, as well. Those eyes, that nose...really well rendered. The color differential in the fur is also nicely placed, else it would throw the realism off...so nice job, a very nice job. I don't think I've ever commented on your work before, but I'm exceptionally fond of your realism pieces. They show a lot of effort and you really achieve something special with them. I'm always looking forward to seeing new paintings from you. :3 Keep it up and don't let the trolls get you down, 'cause I'd really miss seeing your work.

and see thats what I have wondered, Ive just seen so many people get amazing results with derwent pencils O_O. But I have prisma's and Ive only had experience with prismas. They are truly amazing pencils, I used to draw on black paper with them and the color always came out brilliant and bold. I can't wait to play with meh pencils, see what new ideas I can come up with! Id like to, though, find a decent set of watercolor and pastel pencils....I'd think those would be much fun to play with!

Thank you, btw, simply for this comment! Oddly enough, it has made my evening! I'm glad to know you like my work, it always makes me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside knowing people do like what I create. Im always so hard on myself, critiquing a picture to pieces and usually never being happy with anything I produce...such is the life of an artist I s'pose ;).

BTW in the icon, who did that pic?? Ive seen the one daisy and a few others have done for you..but I don't recognize that one I don't think.

Yeah, I know. I've seen people get amazing results with them too....though, the pictures I've seen aren't that "thick" or "solid"-looking, mostly.

It's not wise to mix prismas and derwents, from what I've learned. Tried it once and the derwents turned powdery. o_o; (Then again, I probably just don't know how to use them correctly)

You're welcome. ^^ I'm always amazed at how fast you're able to turn out things like this. Go to your DA page thinking "she just posted, no way she's got anything new up" and there you go posting something new. It's mind boggling how you work so fast and still add such detail.

Oh and the icon was done by [livejournal.com profile] basketi. She was offering icon commissions a while back. :3

Wow. That picture of Spike is just breathtaking. I love the lighting you used. And Spike herself looks so soft and floofy. And ditto to what Daisy said about the tail.

I love your shiny icons too. They're always so sparkly and happy.

As for colored pencils (I definitely commented backwards), I'd say get them from the internet. You can check the usual places like ebay and stuff. Or, you can make a post to artist geared livejournal communities. In my experience, I've found that livejournal offers a great buyer/seller medium as well. My roommate sold t-shirts that she got from Goodwill at more than double the price she paid.

Great drawing Balaa! I really adore the dolphin icon. :D Dolphins used to be my all time favorite animal when I was little. I still love them very much, but now I adore frogs. ;D

I really love how you managed to get a "partical effect" in the rays of light on your last picture. It seems quite difficult to do and I've rarely seen CG artists do such. :) Lovely work!

Wow, gorgeous art as always Balaa! *wants a balaa-made icon sobad* :P That last piece is gorgeous. Howcome we haven't seen it on DA? I absolutely love your realism. The fur you do is just incredible. What kind of cat is that by the way? Looks a bit like a clouded leopard, but could be an ocelot too, they're similar (except for size). GRAH I wish I could afford to commission you. *pokes her empty bank account*

Ive been debating whether to upload eeet or not...I just dont want commissions to start overshadowing my own work but at the same time I do want folks to see all my work. Yet then there is always that tiny nagging voice that says that my commissions kinder run together in theme/subject....but its much more effective to draw a feline at rest than in motion, you can see the chara as motion would blur out aspects that may very well be unique to that chara! O_O sorry for the rant at choo

From: [identity profile] camelai.livejournal.com
I say definitely upload it! I can understand not wanting commissions to take over your gallery though. At least, theoretically I can. :P Every piece you do is so gorgeous! I'm just glad I see your stuff on LJ as well as DA. I don't want to miss a single one! :) And yes, motion is haaaard. I have major trouble coming up with interesting/dynamic/not-just-standing-there poses. :P Though I think it'd be neat to do a piece of a cheetah chasing prey, slightly blurred from motion... that'd be cool. :P Probably hard. :P And don't worry 'bout the "rant" :P It's not a big one and I do it all the time. :P
What's the species of cat in this last one? I was thinking it could be either a clouded leopard or an ocelot, as they look fairly similar except for size.

Tis a floofified clouded leopard O_O...I have a very sick obsession with floof XD and excsessive amounts at that! Anyway yes I actually had several ideas along those lines with a big cat in motion, limbs blurred like you see in many photos of cheetahs. Im just trying to decide on an interesting subject that wouldnt be too cliche, I may have to do it with the tribal cat design, had an idea of a cubby tiger equipped with firefly wings sorter running/flying through a forest. Thank you for all the tips ! ^__^ *puuurkerFLOOOOOOOOOOOOOF*

I looove cloudies *purrr* they're my fave. :D And floof is fun! And it makes people go "I wanna snuggle it!" Hehe. It'll be neat to see what you do with that idea. :) And what you do with these tribal kitties you've been working on! They look very elaborate and cool looking. Cubby tiger flying through the forest would be cool. I'm tempted now to try the running cheetah ('cause I'm less creative :P ) but I dunno how it'd turn out. :P My brain has just been EXPLODING with ideas this summer. HEE! :D

That was actually my expression when I saw that Spike picture... just breathtaking, again Balaa! It's simply amazing to look at a peice of work like that.

The softer colours that you used and the way you framed the picture brings out Spike even more, and you especially notice the detail in the fur and it makes it all the more floofier. And the pose is perfect for the character, aswell.

Beautiful work, Balaa-floofs! XD
