I finally got a pencil sharpner so I can start using my prismas...and today went and bought some bristol paper and a micron pen XD! Oh and random...does anyone know where one can purchase derwent pencils at a decent price. The local arts and crafts store kinda sucked selection wise.

Date: 2005-09-02 02:25 am (UTC)But no, these things will always be expensive unless you manage to get lucky and snag a batch cheap on ebay.
I love the sketch, though. I like your style...realistic and a mix of toony. It's really nice. I do really like the way you drew the eyes in this one, and the little muzzle. ^^ The chubby structure is so adorable, as well. (I'm physically unable to draw chubby things.)
And I love your shiny icons, by the way. They're really eye-catching....really pretty. The rendering/shading job on them are really something else. Very unique. :3
And wow. The finished commissioned picture looks quite different from the WIPS, you've shown us. The lighting has changed quite a lot. A lot more dramatic and a new feel to it has been added. I'm quite fond of the lighting. It's really pretty and the color coordination is really well....coordinated. ;P
You have quite a distinct style of painting your fur too. I can't help but admire how realistic the face of the feline is, as well. Those eyes, that nose...really well rendered. The color differential in the fur is also nicely placed, else it would throw the realism off...so nice job, a very nice job. I don't think I've ever commented on your work before, but I'm exceptionally fond of your realism pieces. They show a lot of effort and you really achieve something special with them. I'm always looking forward to seeing new paintings from you. :3 Keep it up and don't let the trolls get you down, 'cause I'd really miss seeing your work.

Date: 2005-09-02 05:14 am (UTC)Thank you, btw, simply for this comment! Oddly enough, it has made my evening! I'm glad to know you like my work, it always makes me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside knowing people do like what I create. Im always so hard on myself, critiquing a picture to pieces and usually never being happy with anything I produce...such is the life of an artist I s'pose ;).
BTW in the icon, who did that pic?? Ive seen the one daisy and a few others have done for you..but I don't recognize that one I don't think.

Date: 2005-09-02 03:42 pm (UTC)It's not wise to mix prismas and derwents, from what I've learned. Tried it once and the derwents turned powdery. o_o; (Then again, I probably just don't know how to use them correctly)
You're welcome. ^^ I'm always amazed at how fast you're able to turn out things like this. Go to your DA page thinking "she just posted, no way she's got anything new up" and there you go posting something new. It's mind boggling how you work so fast and still add such detail.
Oh and the icon was done by

As for colored pencils (I definitely commented backwards), I'd say get them from the internet. You can check the usual places like ebay and stuff. Or, you can make a post to artist geared livejournal communities. In my experience, I've found that livejournal offers a great buyer/seller medium as well. My roommate sold t-shirts that she got from Goodwill at more than double the price she paid.

Date: 2005-09-02 08:19 am (UTC)I really love how you managed to get a "partical effect" in the rays of light on your last picture. It seems quite difficult to do and I've rarely seen CG artists do such. :) Lovely work!

Date: 2005-09-03 06:50 am (UTC)What's the species of cat in this last one? I was thinking it could be either a clouded leopard or an ocelot, as they look fairly similar except for size.

Date: 2005-09-02 08:33 pm (UTC)That was actually my expression when I saw that Spike picture... just breathtaking, again Balaa! It's simply amazing to look at a peice of work like that.
The softer colours that you used and the way you framed the picture brings out Spike even more, and you especially notice the detail in the fur and it makes it all the more floofier. And the pose is perfect for the character, aswell.
Beautiful work, Balaa-floofs! XD
